Overview

Media Asset Collections

Channel X content is organized into Media Asset Collections. A Media Asset Collection is a collection of assets which can include: videos, audio, text files, and images. Often these assets are complementary to a primary video or audio, and can include “clean” versions of the video, trailers, scripts, closed captioning, promotional images, and radio versions. Media Asset Collections can be part of a series.

Licensing

As outlined on the Info page, Media Asset Collections are licensed on a one-off basis, not via a subscription. Once you have selected a Collection to license, you must adhere to the terms of the agreement. Most license terms apply only to videos or audio files marked "Primary". Secondary assets, including non-primary videos as well as images, audio, and text, are supplementary materials distributed to support the primary license

Video formats

Channel X needs a copy of your media that is acceptable for broadcast. So the type of deliverable required may be quite different than what you might have provided to another website, such as YouTube or Vimeo. We recommend a specific set of video formats that will insure that broadcasters can receive your content in a format that is high enough quality for broadcast standards and is also likely to work well with a post-production workflow that a television station uses.

The following are some general guidelines for the technical specifications that Channel X recommends for videos. In addition to these guidelines, Channel X also has more detailed instructions on encoding video using popular editing software available on the Submit page.

Both high-definition and standard-definition are popular with television broadcasters. While in general a higher resolution copy of your program is preferred, for certain broadcasters a standard-definition version is preferable. We recommend you prepare masters in both formats, then upload the higher quality file. When your content is licensed you will receive an email with the contact information of the acquiring station, and should let them know what additional masters are available.

  4. When you have selected all the files you would like to upload, click on "Done".

Add licenses to a Collection

  1. All collections require at least one license. Channel X supports multiple licenses. For example, if you would like to offer different pricing for non-commercial or CPB-funded stations, you would create a license with those options selected, then you would create a different license for commercial stations. All licenses will be displayed with the Collection.
  2. Click "Add license" and fill out the license questionnaire.
  3. Review the legal distribution agreement. When you create a license with our simple form, it is then translated into a legal distribution agreement. This is the agreement that anyone acquiring your content would cosign. When you complete the licensing form, this legal distribution agreement is displayed so you can print for your records.

Publish a Collection

  1. To publish your Collection all required fields must be completed. Assets in all content areas should say "Ready" not "Click to enter...", and the Collection must have at least one primary video or audio and one license.
  2. When the Collection is ready, the "Publish" button at the bottom of the page will change from gray to black.
  3. When you click "Publish", you will be prompted to review your primary content. If you wish to make any changes, click "Cancel" to return to the edit page. Note that once the Collection is live and has been licensed by a broadcaster, you will not be able to change the primary content or their titles.
  4. If you are ready to proceed, click "Confirm". Channel X will notify you via email once our team has reviewed your content and your collection is live. This process usually occurs within a few business hours, but may vary based upon what time zone you are publishing from.
